The plot is defined by a subtle inclination and is protected from the elements by the surrounding hills. On the West, the hills roll down towards the sea, framing a clear view of the sunset and the horizon. The house turns around the axis of that view, forming a series of perpendicular arms, similar in scale and materiality, while carving its position into the side of the hill. These arms end on a dramatic cantilever, as they define a sequence of protected exterior and interior spaces. The rotary motion allows for the disappearance into the earth of the rather large volume of the house. The interior experience of the form of the Helix is activated by the relationships between the inhabitation spaces, the courtyards and the views which open up towards the landscape.
