The project focuses on three localized installations: work space for two employees, library and work space for two directors within an existing gallery, located in a neoclassical house.
In the gallery, the exhibition space is the protagonist in terms of use, quality and size, thus restricting the infrastructural activities to small, residual, generic spaces.
The intervention unashamedly borrows the language of exhibition design to turn the tables on this notion of the back of house. Three fitted and finely calibrated interiors are presented as extruded sections of identical width that expose the inner workings of the gallery in a manner reminiscent of stage sets or doll houses. Their bold outlines and surfaces painted uniformly, form the essential furniture and defy scale and materiality while giving a sense of precision and intent.
PROFILprovides workspace for two employees sitting side by side looking out into the internal courtyard. It is a long and narrow room formed by extruding a section of window, table and shelves.
MILLIEUhouses the gallery archive in an ingenious and practical system that brings out the joy of being between books.
EN FACEis a room within a room where the two directors share the same desktop. Sitting opposite each other stimulates the dialogue.
